Triple M host stops countdown after AC/DC’s Back in Black placed at No. 149

Triple M host’s furious on-air dummy spit as he STOPS rock countdown after finding out his favorite AC/DC song only ranked at No. 149

A radio announcer for Australian music station Triple M furiously hit pause on a countdown of the greatest rock songs of all time over a controversial placement on the list.

‘Dangerous’ Dave Williams slammed the station’s listeners for only voting Back in Black by AC/DC at No. 149 on ‘Rock’s Greatest Hits 600 Countdown’.

Back in Black, from AC/DC’s 1980 album of the same name, is known for its iconic three-chord opening riff and is widely considered one of the greatest hard rock songs in history.

‘Coming in at number 149 on the countdown, it’s Back in Black. It’s AC/DC, and… stop it. Stop the song,’ Williams said on air.

‘AC DC. Back in Black? At 149? Je vous demande pardon. I will not accept that.’

The radio presenter then got on the phone with several listeners who were equally shocked by the result of the poll.

Williams suggested the song placed so low because listeners just assumed ‘everyone else’ would be voting for it so they didn’t have to.

‘What happened? It’s a given, people think, “Oh, Back in Black will be there – I won’t vote for it, someone else will vote for it,”‘ he said.

‘I’m not playing it. I’m not playing it at 149. I refuse to play Back in Black there. Every time we’ve done a countdown, it’s a given: Back in Black, top 10.’

Williams took over from veteran radio host ‘Ugly Phil’ O’Neil on the award-winning Triple M radio show My Generation in 2019.

He has worked with many well-known industry figures, including Eddie Maguire, Kyle Sandilands, Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, Mick Molloy and Dave Hughes.

He earned his nickname ‘Dangerous Dave’ because the on-air stunts he used to pull often involved an element of danger.
