Samantha Markle has been dealt a blow in her defamation lawsuit against the Duchess of Sussexover comments the royal made during her 2021 Oprah interview.
Samantha, 57, attempted to have Judge Charlene Honeywell – who was appointed by Barack Obama – removed from the case, claiming she wouldn’t be able to be impartial in the matter due to the former US president’s personal ties to Meghan Markle, 40.
“The Obama family, Prince Harry, and Meghan are ‘allies’ and strong supporters of one another,” her motion alleged on Wednesday, as reported by Insider.

It also stated that the judge’s “impartiality will be questioned”.
However, Judge Honeywell has denied any relationship with the Obamas.
“President Obama appointed the undersigned [the judge herself] nearly 13 years ago,” the judge wrote in his decision.
“But the undersigned has never had any relationship, social or professional, with the Obamas.

“The undersigned has never spoken with the former President or the former First Lady.”
Samantha’s lawyer, Alan Sasson, has since responded by saying they will trust the judge’s fairness.
“We trust the judge will be fair and impartial to our client, however we did feel it was necessary, being an Obama appointee and how close Meghan and Harry are to the Obama family,” he said of the motion for the judge to be removed from the case.
Samantha is suing Meghan for defamation over comments made during her sit-down interview with TV mogul Oprah Winfrey and in the book Finding Freedomclaiming “false and malicious lies”.
Michael Kump, acting for the duchess, has said the lawsuit will be given “the minimum attention necessary”, as this is “all it deserves”.
“This baseless and absurd lawsuit is just a continuation of a pattern of disturbing behavior,” he told TMZ.
Finding Freedom co-author Omid Scobie responded to Kump’s comments, calling them a “burn”.
“A burn from Meghan’s attorney Michael Kump,” he wrote on Twitter at the time.
Samantha is claiming Meghan’s comments about her and their family has impacted sales of her autobiography, prevented her from getting jobs and caused emotional and caused her mental distress.
She alleges Meghan lied about the circumstances of her upbringing and her involvement with her extended family, which includes Samantha, half-brother Thomas Jr and their father, Thomas Markle Sr.
Thomas Markle Sr was recently hospitalized after suffering a suspected stroke. It isn’t known if Meghan has visited with her father since his most recent health scare.
