Hillary Clinton is facing backlash from left-wing voters after she said the Democratic Party should focus on winning, rather than the divisive battle over trans rights.
Mrs Clinton made the comments during a wide-ranging interview with the UK’s Financial Times newspaper.
The reporter behind the piece, Edward Luce, asked Mrs Clinton if Democrats tend to lose elections by backing “activist” causes.
“We are standing on the precipice of losing our democracy, and everything that everybody else cares about then goes out the window,” Mrs Clinton said.
“Look, the most important thing is to win the next election. The alternative is so frightening that whatever does not help you win should not be a priority.”
